【Synopsis】
Noriko, who started working at the crematorium after her parents died, has often seen the deaths of people. The bones coming out of the crematorium signal the change from a living, breathing human being who, only until a few days ago, felt joy and sadness just as anyone else living, into an inanimate ‘object’. Every time Noriko sees the bones coming out, she can’t help but ask what the purpose of life is and what it means. This is a story about Noriko’s reckoning with death through her interactions with Hayao, a sickly dying friend, Ono, a fellow crematorium employee, and Dazai Osamu’s short story “Tokatonton”.
부모의 죽음을 계기로 화장터에서 일하기 시작한 노리코는 지금까지 종종 사람의 죽음을 목격 해왔다. 화장터에서 나온 뼈. 며칠 전까지 육체를 가지고 호흡을하고 기뻐하거나 슬퍼하며, 확실히 살아 있었던 생명이 '물건'로 바뀌었던 순간. 그것을 마주할 때마다 노리코는 인생에 무슨 목적이 있는지, 도대체 무슨 의미가 있는지 생각한다. 그런 노리코가 병으로 죽어가는 하야오, 화장장 직원인 오노, 그리고 다자이 오사무의 단편 소설 “토카톤톤”을 통해 죽음을 응시하고 삶을 묻는 이야기.
